While the chain is 14k gold filled, the charm is made of gold vermeil.  Gold vermeil is 24 karat gold plated over sterling silver.  Charm is not meant to be polished. To help prevent the gold from fading please avoid wearing while sleeping, showering, exercising, swimming, and avoid all contact with liquids, gels, perfumes, hairsprays, lotions, etc. Store in a cool, dry environment.
